Anyways, other than staying up for too many days trying to make enough stuff, it was a lot of fun to see people enjoy cardboard and condiments so much. I was at a booth in a group called the television farm, there are some other posts about them on this blog.

The Television Farm

The Televison Farm is a group of collaboration buddies. We get together and make stuff for fun, pick each others minds, and enter craft shows. The t.v. heads were made for the photo shoot for our website.

Cardboard Motor

This is the most recent experiment I've done with wind-up toy mechanisms. Completely made out of cardboard, this is the greatest success I've had with kinetic work. It runs for 6 seconds! haha... As I state on my website, apart from the traditional graphic design work I do, I am very interested in making art more interactive. I have been working on wind-up toy mechanisms for five months now, and continue to learn new things following each failure! Eventually I want to make massive three-dimensional dioramas that combine moving text and image with music to tell short stories. Many people have been asking me lately what these things do that I'm building. Nothing yet! However, I truly believe that if I am able to refine the design of these "motors" to a point where I can use them effectively and move on to the most critical aspect, a design aesthetic and purpose, that I will be able to make some interesting work.

The ratchet device that I came up with in this particular mechanism works really well, it is the greatest success of the prototype. The purpose of the ratchet is so that the gears do not engage each other until the mechanism has been powered by the user.

After completing my website I began to make self-promotional material. The first things I made were little dogs that you could pull a tag on to make the paws and tails move. I wanted to make something that people would interact with at their desk. The tags contains all of my business information, anything is better than a business card! These photos document the project.

I am really excited to have the final component of my website working now. I am constantly busy making things, and the majority of it will never make it to "The Work" section of my website. This blog will allow me to post things that I am currently working on a day to day basis. Small makes, nonsensical creations, project documentation, and thoughts...
